Hi everyone. Haven't had much time to keep this website up to date. Kea was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday August 11, 2010. No outpatient therapy or rehap was recommended because he did so well while in the hospital. He has to be supervised by an adult 24/7 for the next couple of months. He can not do any contact sports for his whole freshman year in High School. Yes, he went to register for school a couple days ago.
Kea's welcome home party is set for Friday August 27th from 3pm-9pm. If you would like to come by please call me at (503) 270-7475.

Family and friends of K-Rod has established a Funds Donation in his name with Wells Fargo Bank. Donation will be accepted in any Wells Fargo Banks. Great news, K-Rod will be taken out of PICU sometime on Saturday July 24, 2010. It is exciting to know that his condition has gotten better enough for him to be out of the ICU Unit. To help this adjustment and to ensure that K-Rod will get his much needed rest, please message or contact Mom, Dad, or Hospital before visiting. Thank you all for your continued prayers and support!

Last night at about 5 pm, Doctors decided to remove ventilator. They had been weaning him off it slowly for the last few days. It was nervous to see him separate from the ventilator, but his lungs sounded strong and he was breathing on his own. We are so blessed that Kea is off life support!

Kea gets to hear a live performance of some beautiful harp music. The harpist played a total of 4 songs. Kea was resting and his vitals stayed normal. When the harpist was done and left his room, Kea started moving his legs and briefly had his eyes opened. This time he lifted his head a couple of times, i rushed out of the recycliner to relax him. I think Kea really enjoyed the therapeutic harp music! Thank you to the Harpist and Hospital for this wonderful and soothing treat!

7:40 pm, although still heavily sedated and still on a ventilator Kea began moving his body a lot more than usual. i got up to gently rub his left hand. He fluttered his eyes and had them briefly opened but long enough to see my smile. i told him a couple of times of where he is at, to relax, let the nurses take care of him, we are proud of him and that we love him. we saw him move his mouth around, looked as if he was saying "hi....". Then he shut his eyes and went back to resting. It has been 10 days since I last looked into my son's beautiful brown eyes.

The Doctors have asked to hold off visitation for the next few days. It is crucial for his recovery that he can rest comfortably. Kea is still heavily sedated but he has shown signs to fight of not just the machines but all his medications. I have witnessed Kea's strength and determination to get back on his feet. He loves playing football, doing track and playing his XBox Live. He often like to critique how his mom and sister Lahaina dresses, he offers some fashion advice with colors and styles. He likes his V-Necks, stylish denims, and cool high top sneakers. Kea enjoys painting colorful pictures with everything he loves in life from clothes, the way he dances (he likes to jerk) and with his goals and dreams. He wants the best out of life and we know he wants to get better to live his life!

Kea had an MRI today and the preliminary results are good. He continues to improve and several medicines and tubes have been removed. He is still intubated?to allow his lungs to heal and dialysis. He has moved his legs and fingers. He is so strong and again a fighter. Please continue to pray and lift him up with all your positive thoughts. If you were at Dougan Falls that day we would like to hear from you.??

Kea was in an awful accident on July 9 ,2010 at Dougan Falls. He was LifeFlighted toSouthwest Washington Medical Center where he received excellent care from the Emergency Team. The support staff was also top notch. He was transferred to Emanuel Children's Hospital once he was stable. His heart stopped a total of three times. He's fighting to live and is a strong young man. ?All of his organs had shut down and they're all trying to recover. The water was cold and that helped preserve them. He's currently on a ventilator to allow his lungs to heal. Emanuel is the best place for him to be and the doctors are encouraged by his continually progress. Thank you!
